Airway above all else

I did well on the SEE (an exam that assesses your readiness for the nurse anesthesia certifying board exam)... so does that mean I can test out of this final year of CRNA school?? No? Fine

I got my first "code airway" intubation today! It was just as I was leaving the OR and getting ready to go home... we heard them page overhead "code airway, 7 north room xyz, code airway, 7 north, room xyz." I admit a small part of me was telling me to just stay the course and go home. Because in all my previous hospitals, even when I wanted to go to codes, the attendings and residents always told us SRNAs that they were going to the code, and we were supposed to stay and hold the fort (i.e. continue covering the cases in the OR). Harumph.

But then I realized, this is the one moment where a code is called and I'm NOT currently assigned to a case, so I'm going to go before anyone tries to stop me !!! Hahaha. Even better, the attendings and CRNAs at this hospital actually welcomed me and offered me the opportunity to intubate. Man, it sure is different intubating at bedside on a med-surg floor. Its chaotic. And I was all jacked off of adrenaline so I didn’t remember basic checks like suction or testing the IV to make sure it worked. My CRNA literally prepped the ETT, drew the meds, coordinated the RT... I kinda just intubated, lol.
